No they shouldn't. Who the hell would do a job like that (effectively a 168-hour working week) for that little money? No-one with half a brain would run for election then.

Agree. Utterly ridiculous posting by COC (I think his name says it all).
We would get really lazy people running as energetic people would know that it is not worth their while.

I hate this pseudo socialist average industrial wage crap. Who on God's Green Earth wants to be average?

In a major turnabout, Enda Kenny has announced to the Dail that he is taking a 5% pay cut next year!

So Kennys the hypocrite for actually doing it as opposed to Gogarty who was just engaging in empty posturing?

Gogarty is already doing it, and Kenny is only talking about doing it.

Has Gogarty written to the Paymaster General requesting a Salary Cut as Kenny has?
No he hasn't - he merely called for an 8% reduction in salaries.

First of all, Kenny has CLAIMED to have written to the paymaster general. It now appears that the letter hadn't actually been written at the time of the Press Conference - the implication being that Kenny made it up on the fly.

Secondly, Paul Gogarty HAS written to the Minister For Finance requesting that the cuts be made.

If requesting that the cuts be made is "populist nonsense", then what do you call the stunt that Enda pulled at the Press Conference?

What are you - the Green Goebbels or something?

Kenny has put his money where his mouth is ( i.e requesting a cut in his own salary from the Paymaster General), Paul G was engaging in a bit of populist jacking off.
How many times does this need to be spelled out to you

Paul G has consistently called for this measure, he has given up significant amounts of his salary already, and has written to the Minister calling for this measure to be put in the budget.

Kenny, on the other hand, dismissed this as "populist nonsense" on Wednesday, then turned around and announced it, off the cuff, at the Press Conference today.

I think we can all see who is the one trying to jack off.
