The paymaster-general would have only received the letter today, or tomorrow if the post is slow.
So you admit it's still too early to talk of Kenny "having taken" a pay cut?

FFS, joemomma. You're brighter than that. He sent a letter to the PG instructing that his salary be cut. The PG will cut it when he gets the letter. Do you want to wait till next payday to believe him or something? What next, you gonna demand he produces a payslip on national TV?

That really is ridiculous hair-splitting on your part.

    LOL!

You guys won't give up trying to spin the Party line, will you?

We don't know that he actually sent the letter, and we do know that he hadn't even composed it when he announced that he had sent it.

There are also doubts that the Paymaster General will be able to accede to the request.

He has put his reputation on the line alright.

Otherwise it was just an opportunist PR stunt.

Gogarty, on the other hand, has been arguing for this for years: Here's what we should do; Here's why we should do it!

Consistency vs cynical Opportunism (and the flip/flop just made it more bizarre)

There are many other reps in the Oireachtus who have consistently opposed pay rises and/or supported pay freezes or cuts.

There are also many who give up large portions of their salaries to their own parties and charidy. Some like to talk about it more than others (perhaps referring to themselves in the 3rd person). All of this has payback for them.

It's how they vote that counts.

    Well done Paul!

Great to see the Minister take on board your request.

    Keep up the good work.

It's not my intention to split hairs, I'm just genuinely sceptical that this approach will actually work. And it's not just me, a number of commentators in the media have said it's unclear if you can actually get a voluntary pay cut on request from the paymaster general.

We don't know if Paul Gogarty sent his letter either!
Its very laughable though how you manage to paint Gogarty in heroic light when he made a mere gesture (but nothing concrete as we all know how influential a backbencher of a minority party is) compared to a TD who actually requested a personal pay cut.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

What is unclear about it and why?

There is no law prohibiting EK from offering to work for less pay. What authority has the State (via the PMG's office) to force the extra unwanted money on him?
