    Green Party European Election Candidates

Some of the other parties have threads on this and I don't see one for the Greens, so I'd be interested to know who people see as the potential candidates.

Obviously, South is of particular interest to me.

The Green Party don't seem to have a huge choice of candidates. I assume Senator Boyle will not be running. The only other politician elected at even county council level is Chris O'Leary who was the candidate last time out. Would his campaigning against Lisbon be a problem? And then there are a handful of town councillors around the place (Kinsale, Youghal, Passage West, Ennis, any others?).

Why do you say that? I think it would be a good idea for him to run.
Worth breaking my "no sig" rule for:

I would see it as a lose-lose situation for him.

It's not good to lose too many elections because it gives a bad association to a candidate.

But if he is elected, he then will have to give up his Seanad seat, making it harder to run for the Dail because there will be questions about which mandate he actually wants (national or European). Or he could get elected and give up his seat to a party colleague, which wouldn't go down too well with the electorate.

If Billy Bunter runs, and in the unlikely event he won, would he be able to nominate his own replacement, or would it be up to Biffo to fill the senate seat?

My understanding is that Mr. Bunter has left the party.

Why, was all the tuck gone?

I hear Deirdre de Burca is interested in Dublin?
Why not Leinster? Surely the field is very crowded for the 3rd party seat in Dublin?

I have a great idea about who should run in North West. Someone with family origins in one end of the constituency, and whose spouse is from the other end. Someone with experience.
If there is a future, it will be Green.

So long as they agree that it's important that you teach your children how to think, not what to think, I agree with their candidacy.

No you are wrong. He is still in the Green party. He didn't get re-elected to the Dail, but he was nominated to the Senate by the Rat in the Anorak, along with that woman from Wicklow with twigs in her hair and, as far as I can remember, a horse. It's quite a menagerie in there.

Re: Green Party European Election Candidates

First priority for the greens should be to ensue deBurca and not McKenna is their Dublin candidate, they really need to distance themselves from her

Second priority should be get Dan Boyle on the ticket in Munster, he will probably not get elected but Chris O'Leary's performance the last time was embarrassing and next to McKenna he was the most high profile green leading the NO campaign so if the choice is Boyle or O'Leary it has to be Boyle.
