Green minister to give their payrise to their party

    From today's Indo

how do you all feel about this stunt? Surely they should be rejecting the payrise. This may make their party members happy, but as a tax payer I dont see why more of my hard earned money should go to fund a party that dumps its polices so it can get into power.

Giving it to charity would have garnered more sympathy. As it stands the GP ministers are still benefiting from this payrise via their party.

This is a sickening and self-serving gesture. The money will still be spent on their careers and probably replaces other sums they donate to their party.

If these middle-class yuppies had any interest in the lives of ordinary people, there are many charities who would gratefully accept their donations.

Dont political parties already get payments from the state? I wonder will FF now donate their payrises to their own party now? The poor old bean counters in FF HQ would have a nightmare having to change the booke around to accomodate this I would think.

It wouldn't, and anyway, it was never designed to "garner sympathy".

GP TDs have alway given a portion of their salary (€5,000) to the party and it was always expected that Ministers would give more.

Bear in mind too that the GP is the only party that doesn't have a corporate or "other" funding source, and speaking as someone who is fully aware of how "monastic" an experience being a member of the GP can be, I think this is a great move.

Judging by the tone of the comments above, I'm guessing the Greens have't lost any voters.
Let's play bash the Greens. It's fun, it's new. It's easy.

Lets' not bother having a political debate.
If there is a future, it will be Green.

Looks like this is inline with the green policy of recycling.

what are they trying to achieve with same? is it some publicity or are they distancing themselves from the pay rises the cabinet approved ? if so did they vote in favour of same and is the GP officially opposed to the increase ? i do remember hearing Minister Ryan trying to be vague and avoid committing himself on the last word about it, but can't see anything on the GP website about same.
