    Dan Boyle elected Green Party Chairman

    Dan Boyle has been elected Green Party Chairman, taking over from John Gormley.

    Senator Boyle got elected on 2415 points.

    No real surprise in the result, although the numbers are a lot closer than I expected.
    Although, if you work it out, the numbers will always be a bit close in this system:
    500 1st pref votes = 2500 points
    500 2nd pref votes, with no 1st prefs = 2000 points

    So, a result that would look like a landslide under STV (500 votes to 0) now looks like a reasonable close thing (2500 points to 2000).

    How are the points calculated?

    "Very Good-ness" in an IT kind of a way?
    Liquidate labour, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers, liquidate real estate.

    Wow, I did not expect that it would be that even. How did they get 'points' did they have to take penalties at some stage? Did they have to play Scrabble against each other? Did they have to build up WeightWatcher points over the election campaign?

    So, I'd say Boyle probably got close to or just above a simple majority of first preferences.
