Deirdre de Burca to be a Green Senator

I don't see how, even with deBurca's profile as a Senator she is going to win back the secong seat from Fine Gael in Wcklow, her first preferences this time round were nothing particularly spectacular. FG have a solid base in Wicklow with two popular TD's on either side of the constituency. It's going to be very hard for deBurca to break through.

How is it that solid if they only won the second seat this time?

Anyway, with Liz hinting at Europe, De Búrca could well take her seat next time, the Labour vote in Wicklow won't hold without her.

Indeed.

De Burca was only a couple of hundred votes shy of taking the 2nd FG seat. The Seanad job will also free up a lot more time for her.

The greens haven't a prayer of taking a wicklow seat next time. They got a lot of goodwill preferences, including my own, last time out. Belive me a lot of that goodwill has well and truly evaporated. While I offloaded to her on the door about the govt of the day, she nodded and assured me she felt the very same way. The lady has no honor, another spineless politician. The motto is self preservation at all costs. Thank God for Joe Beahen, a beacon of hope and shows this lady up for what she is.
