    John Gormley elected Green Party Leader

    John Gormley has been declared the winner of the Green Party leadership contest.

    John Gormley received 478 votes (just under two thirds of the vote), and Patricia McKenna received 263 votes (just over a third of the vote). 34 votes were spoiled.

    775 people voted, representing approximately 60% of the party membership.

    I would also like to pass on my congrats to John. The question regarding Patricia was this all about building up a profile for her to get one of the green seanad seats?

    With a third of the vote it must surely be Senator McKenna now!

    Congrats to John, working on those figures its about 65% for him with a 65% turnout.

    Looks like PMcK has a claim on one of those Seanad seats. FF and Ahern won't like this

    How many people are in the Green party?
    That seems like a very small total poll.
    Liquidate labour, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers, liquidate real estate.

    1/3 support was very high, considering she herself only anticipated 10%.

    I'd tend to agree with Limerick Lad - A Seanad seat must be on the cards.

    At 35% she's well able to claim some moral authority.

    Looks like Gormley may have to work with her.
