McKenna did a lot better then I thought she did. Now I know there could be other reasons for the high vote that McKenna got, but it's not unreasonable to suggest that it was because some members of the Greens who supported the Greens decision to go into government are disappointed with the Green's role in the government so far and now regret their decision.

Great result for McKenna - far exceeded expectations. (Forget that 10% bunkum she was spinning. The likely result was between 20-25%.) Not the best for Gormley. McKenna has a reputation for being for the Greens what Boris Johnson is for the Tories or John Deasy is for Fine Gael, a bit off the wall and unpredictable. If still Gormley could only get 2/3, that suggests that had a more predictable candidate run, he could have faced a real battle to win.

The vote for McKenna is a shot across the bows of the Green ministers to stop being such a walkover for FF and to stand up to them more.

... or that Patricia McKenna can be the PD to the Green FF (as in watchdog).

Could be rather healthy of the Greens actually, I feared they'd surrender their existence to FF over the next five years.

Seriously guy, people could look back in five years and point out that Patricia McKenna saved the Greens.

Just a thought. Anyways, Seanad would beckon I expect.

No, the Tanaiste job wasn't for the Greens. [/quote:1z3hoev8]
They didn't have a leader then. Surely they have a claim now.

No, stop with this line, the Tanaiste job wasn't up for grabs, the Greens weren't (aren't) in as strong a position as the PDs were - this was covered weeks ago.

The likely result was always going to between 70:30 and 60:40. McKenna was an excellent MEP, is dedicated to the cause, and is held in great affection by a lot of Party members. The size of her vote is as a result of a number of factors.

Not a chance. It won't/can't happen.
