The reason Gormley can't do anything about Tara is not because there aren't valid reasons for the route to be altered, but because he is bound by a political agreement with Fianna Fail.

If you want to save Tara, and other similar sites, join the GP and ensure that at the next election they get 8 seats instead of 6, instead of wasting your time with these meaningless on line petitions.

There was already a Tara petition on the net recently. Why set up a new one?

I've added my name as I suspect waiting five years for the next election may be too late to try and change the route of the M3. Also, last time I looked, Ireland is still considered a democracy. If enough people began to understand the carnage this is going on in their name, they can put a stop to this developer lead road.

Em, 70% of voters in the last General Election voted for parties who favour the current route of the M3.

If you genuinely want to save our heritage (believe me, most people don't care less) you need to spend less time signing meaningless petitions and a lot more time helping smaller political parties win enough Dail seats to hold the balance of power.

Em, 70% did not vote for the M3 in its present course. 40+% for for FF, they only party who categorically want the M3 in its present course. Of these 40%, I'm willing to bet most do not know about the full carnage going on in Tara and, as you say, most don't give it much consideration. They're worrying about their next paycheck and inflated mortgage payment.

If enough people wake up, they can change the course.

From what I heard, the existing road is nearer the hill of Tara than the new motorway will be. Can anyone verify if that's true or not? It would be a bit silly to be objecting about building a new road that will be further away from the hill than the one that's being used already

I can only give you second hand information which I picked up on another site. There is, indeed, a road going through Tara. It however is not very obtrusive and not heavily travelled. The M3 will be further away from Tara but obviously will have a bigger visual and noise impact on the valley than a country road. There is also going to be an interchange nearby.

You can well image the difference between an old country road meandering through the valley compared to a new motorway route.

Of course, the archeological and heritage impact is another kettle of fish altogether.

It might be an idea to direct this petition to someone who doesn't already agree with you.

FF ministers would be the most effective targets.
