I heard Eamon Ryan on The Week in Politics last night saying that a rainbow was on if it included Sinn Fein. Does this mean that the Greens would happily do business with Sinn Fein? What is the Greens attitude to SF?

Liquidate labour, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers, liquidate real estate.
Didn't they already imply this in the run up to the election through various comments made by Sargent?
It's just a rather weak line that the Greens have been trotting out in response to the rather weak accusation their mandate is based on them only entering government with FG. It's just niggling by both sides.
I would be interested in what Green posters think about how viable a coalition would be between Sinn Féin and themseleves. Exclude the reality of seat numbers and say whether the policies and people are compatible.

I wonder what the Green voters would make of a Green Sinn Fein alliance. My thinks they would choke on there green tea and Mssrs. Gormley, Sargent, Cuffe, Gogarty,Ryan and the Madame from Carlow would lose their deposits.

Well there's another thread running where FG posters are seriously contemplating making moves towards lining Sinn Féin up with their little coalition. Politics is a strange auld business.

I think it could work quite happily. With SF currently in the process of tempering their more socialistic economic policies, the gap between the parties isn't necessarily insurmountable.
They would, of course, initially suffer from the problem we've had over the last month of disappointing members and supporters by not being able to deliver on all their manifesto, and having to make the transition from being a party of opposition to one of government in a sovereign state, where difficulties and compromises can't be blamed on London, but SF want to be in government and I think their leading lights would be more than capable of steering the party in such a direction.
There would still be obvious distaste among many Greens at the occasional SF paean to certain former members but that would not be enough to impede a deal: if we can cut a deal with Fianna Fáil, we can cut one with anyone.
