This was no hissy fit. Dan Boyle admitted he knew decision was being made. If this wasn't part of a cynical pre-agreed plan to save Gormleys face the Greens are even more befuddled they we thought they were.

How about apologies to the 91% of Green voters who decided no to give FF a transfer?

Sounds like a quote from Lenin

The Greens always kept the door open for coalition with FF. What has annoyed people is the manner in which they've done the deal.

They spent 10 days "negotiating" the programme for Govt, claiming that getting Green policy into it was the critical challenge, cabinet seats were not on the agenda.

When we saw how little policy, after 10 days, they'd actually managed to get into the Programme, and how many core demands e.g. Shannon, Hospital co-location, M3, corporate donations etc they had abandoned, the Greens did a 180-degree u-turn and told us that having influence in cabinet was the important thing, the Programme for Govt wasn't that important.

Trevor Sargent resigns to restore some semblance of principle to the Greens, only to blow that again by mocking Enda Kenny for actually sticking by his principles with regard to dealing with Sinn Fein.

The clear message is that the Greens have abandoned any pretence that what they tell the electorate is what they will do in practice.

For the Greens, Pragmatism and Power have replaced Policy and Principle.

It's incredible that we now live in a country where parties are attacked for not selling their souls and breaking their promises for power. FG said that they would not go into government with SF and many people could have voted for FG for that reason, so it's only right that FG did not talk to SF. SF are not ready for government in this state yet and it would only hurt Ireland and FG if FG went into government with them anyway.
Yes, but if Enda was any serious about arranging a FG led Govt. he would have needed SF support as it would be unlikely Healy Rae and Cooper Flynn would have supported him. He would have welcomed SF absteining but part of Govt.

    A fair point.

Perhaps he thinks that Enda should have negotiated a government with SF then resigned.

That wasn't what I took from what Dan said, but time will tell.

I'd be more interested in the 100% of Green Voters who will now see Green Policies being implemented in the Departments of Environment, Heritage & Local Government, and in Communications, Energy & Natural Resources. Their preferred partners for the Greens didn't make the grade, but at least Green policies will now be implemented.

    As I said .......
