First electoral test for the Greens since the general election wipeout (Dublin West)

Tallies currently have the Green candidate in Dublin West, Roderic O'Gorman, on 5%. If he is in the vicinity of this when the count is completed, he'll have almost tripled his vote and percentage since he stood for the party in February of this year and will possibly have achieved the highest green vote ever in that constituency. That's a big change in the electorate's mood in just 8 months. Any thoughts?

Good riddance to the traitors. They will never darken the decision making in our social choice ever again.

I look forward to the come back. It makes me shudder to think the environment is the hands of Phil Hogan.

You do know their vote went up, yeah? Did you actually read the original post or did you just go into auto-post mode when you saw the word "Green"? Actually engaging in thoughtful discussion would be worth a try.

I wouldn't bother - CS would rather drown in a rising tide of sewage than admit there might be something to environmental concerns.

    Great Result for Roderic

Fair play to Roderic O'Gorman and to the Irish voting public. This is a very respectable vote. RTE gives tallies as follows
Latest tallies from Dublin West by-election: Labour 24%; Fianna Fáil 22%; Socialist Party 21%; Fine Gael 15%; Sinn Féin 9%; Green Party 5%; Others 4%.

If this were to be the result, the Greens can be very confident of bouncing back in the next local elections. This looks like being the Greens strongest ever performance in Dublin West.
