will Gormley succeed, where mcdowell failed, in finally burying the proposed incinerator at poolbeg??

As we saw in the last few days, Gormley's word is worthless. Just because he was against something last week doesn't mean he is against it now.
I hope not. Dublin city needs to take care of its own waste, instead of exporting it to rural areas outside the city.
incinerator's don't dipose of waste--they compact it down to toxic ashOriginally Posted by michael1965
about 1/3 the volumne of the original waste.
Michael 1965 where would u like to put the toxic ash from the proposed
incinerator?
have a look at www.fiasco.ie.
Don't forget the other incinerators - Ringaskiddy and Co. Meath.
Hi Muiris. I should have said "exporting untreated waste to rural areas". The ash has to be landfilled of course. It's a fair compromise, for urban areas to burn it, and the rural areas to accept the ash. Also, I think you can get much greater reductions in volume than that. According to the US EPA, it is up to 90%Originally Posted by muiris
Let's not go down this route again. Fundamental green tenets - the 'waste hierarchy' - are the avoidance, reduction, re-use and recycling of waste, by which point incineration is a ************************************************'s wet dream.
We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when creating them

The incinerator should go ahead, purely for the benefit of local residents. They badly need something to mask the whiff off the sewage treatment plant.Originally Posted by Deep Throat
well I think if they go ahead with it they will actually want to burn theOriginally Posted by mollox
