Possible Green Party Leadership Contest. Who? Who? Who?

If the Greens go into Government with Fianna Fáil, Trevor Sargent may no longer be leader of the party. In this case there would have to be a leadership contest.

    My questions are -

    1. Who would challenge for the leadership

    2. Who would make the best leader

    3. Who would win a vote of Green Party members right now

Dunno about number 1 but I presume Ryan would be the answer to questions 2&3.

Gormley - especially if Sargent was putting up a poster and the TV cameras were present.

God - I can't see any of them - Gormley strikes me as someone who doesn't live in the real world - he prefers to read a book and have an apple. I can not see him facing up to Bertie and Biffo. Cuffe is just a pretty boy with a US investment account. I couldn't even pick Gogarty out of a line up, Ryan maybe, Sargent - a total wimp and White - don't know her and she's new so no chance. Out of them I guess Ryan at a push but really I can't see any of them having the guts to get anything Green past FF whereas if FG were able to do business with DL very successfuly I Think FG can deal with the Greens so that it works for both parties.

It should have been Dan Boyle!

The victory of White is no compensation for the loss of the most talented man in that party.

I'm getting slightly unnerved by how many right-wingers are expressing their admiration for Dan. Not that I disagree, I'm just wondering what I missed.

Wasn't Gormley the "de facto" head of the Greens before so it would be retrograde to reinstall him as leader. Given his sterling media performances during the election Eamon Ryan would seem to be a leader who would have appeal beyond the hard core Green activists and attract more votes to the Greens at the next election.
    Average expenses per TD in 2011:- FG €36,412, Lab €28,756, FF €45,219, SF €44,413, SP €23,654, PBP €31,866, WUAG €49,911, IND €37,805, CC €13,112.

No, Trevor was the de facto head from his election in 1992 (five years before John) until 2001, when he was officially elected leader.

    Why?

Are you really so naive to think FF will accept Green policy to stop building roads and houses and corporate donations etc. Can you imagien the meeting between Biffo, Bertie and Cuffee or Gormley? FF would eat them alive.
