Sligo Leitrim was the constitiuency in 2002.

The poll in this area was 3.07%

Scanlon got 3.0% in Sligo-North Leitrim
McDaid got 3.2% in South Leitrim (excluding Roscommon)

Most of the campaign was focused on Sligo-Leitrim, in anticipation that this constituency will be re-united as a 3 seater in some shape or form.

Quentin Gargan's performance in Cork South West was incredible for a first timer.

Trevor Sargent is wrong to say that we increased our vote share. What nonsense. He should resign immediately.

Well actually we did. it may not have been in our traditions areas, but the fact that we ran people in every constituency for the first time ever did increase our national vote nearly one percent. Nothing to write home about, but it is an increase.

The increase outside the traditional areas was actually in the region of 3%.

Who would replace him? Dan Boyle seemed like his natural successor but he is gone. Not White, not gogarty, who are the other non-entities?

Oh wait Eamon Ryan, I forgot about him. He would have a broader appeal than Sargeant I would imagine.

I'm sorry but no we didn't. If we ran a candidate in every constituency in 2002 we would have beat the 4.7% figure of 2007. That is an unavoidable truth. Our vote was down or static in nearly every constituency in the country and this resulted in us nearly losing 5 seats and only coming back with one.

Let's be honest on this. Our vote went down. We need to seriously look at getting it back and increasing it further.

Eamonn Ryan, step up to the plate to LEAD the party please!!
