Harry McGee Article - Can Greens rise from the ashes?

Interesting article on the GP by Harry McGee in today's Times.

Trevor Sargent compares the Green Party decision to go into government with FF to the plot of "Saving Private Ryan":

“Except that our mission was to save the children of the country. We had to go in. We could not wait any longer. Future generations needed their interest put first.”
It seems that a lot of people in the GP have yet to wake up to the fact that they are the latest in a long line of FF coalition partners to end up as political roadkill.

I'd compare it to a different Tom Hanks movie.

    Forrest Gump.

Sargent is a lying dick. They got a whiff of power and went for it despite the fact that they were betraying their voters to get it.

You cannot change facts and the fact is they are scum.

I'll give you another. You are a clown and an attention seeking twerp. If any one party can claim to have the moral high ground after this crisis it is the Greens. They argued forcefully that we were building too many houses and our economy was unsustainable and they were ignored. They rightly went into government because our political system is dysfunctional and only government parties get to make decisions or have any influence on policy. They went into effect chnage. Naive they were but use words like "scum" says more about you and your lack of any political knowledge than it ever could about the Greens.

Would you feck off with your slimy excuses.

The green movement in this country is in tatters thanks to their megalomaniac tendencies. They knew their voters didn't want FF in power, and they said they wouldn't go in with FF but of course the crowd who wanted cleaner, more transparent politics neglected to show us the small print where they could go in with FF if Sargent resigned. Sneaky is the word which describes such behaviour and the electorate have had it up to the eyeballs with sneaky.

And then, in the midst of an economic crisis the likes of which we have never ever seen, they harp on about ************************e like stag hunting and impose carbon taxes ( which aren't carbon taxes) on people struggling to pay their bills.

They were a disaster and a farce. Had they any honour they never would have gone in with FF and that is an undeniable fact.

The Greens big mistake was that they forgot that FF are a party of thieves and traitors. Naive was their fault. Their policies on the whole were beneficial to Ireland and it is a great pity that they weren't given more prominence in the 90's, especially their views in relation to planning and corporate donations.

Having met Trevor Sargeant in the past, I have to say that I found him to be a very principled man with a great work ethic for his locality and beliefs. He is a loss to the Dáil. However staying in so long with the scobie party was a wretched mistake. The Greens only reason on earth may have been to keep FF in long enough to actually have the mess land on its own door step for a change. The lord works in mysterious ways.

    Absolutely 100% correct.

Unfortunately they achieved nothing, apart for helping a bunch of incompetent muppets (FF) bankrupt a country.

We can see from the local and general elections what the citizens of the State think of their tenure in power.

    Jacob Whitecloud says
Heres the thing: they weren't called 'green' for nothing. They were virgins, getting into bed with people who were not, to put it politely. And they learnt an important lesson: the necessity of respecting the line. Its like this: every time you cross the line, even with the right end result in mind, you weaken it, as if you have erasers (rubbers) on the soles of your feet. After a while you rub it out completely, but you still know where it is. And then after a bit longer you don't know where it used to be but still where it was in relation to other things. And then in the end you remember that there used to be a line somewhere. And then . . well, you're too drunk on power to care anymore, aincha.
So when did the Greens cross the line? More than likely in the fine print of the agreement they signed with FF in order to 'share' power. But wily old FF used the Greens' thirst for power to seduce them, making them think they had to give their power away to get it from FF; in effect they became caught in a reflection of their own perceived powerlessness, Mr Gormley.
Finally they awoke to realise they'd become as lost as FF, not to mention the rest of the country. And don't forget, the ones who could 'see' were being admonished to commit suicide by that country's leader and his appointed successor.
So don't judge them too harshly fellow citizen, particularly when they reflect back to you something you haven't the courage to look at in yourself.

An interesting comment from that article
