There's no need for that, you just need to know where to drill, and at what angles.

When you drill a row of holes, perfectly straight, it allows the poster to rip along the one line. The Labour posters in our area were also drilled at the wrong heights. If the drill holes are too close to the top and bottom, the middle of the poster will blow in, if they're too close to the middle, the top will fall in over them.

Only our posters in Dublin North have managed to withstand the weather. Everyone must drill them wrong. Most of the posters though seem to be drilled at angles, still doesn't seem to be working. We learned the hard way the last time around.

Around my own constituency in Dublin NW, the place is a ************************************g mess with posters. I'm constantly seeing Enda and Dessie flapping in the wind.

And if they'd bloody remove them afterwards as well!

I hate the sight of all the cableties after elections. I'll be collecting them after this election
Do you mean on the polls or on the streets? I can never figure out why the cable ties are left on the polls. It's a lot easier and safer to cut the ties rather than pulling the poster down.

On the polls, generally if they've taken them off the polls they are good about taking them away.

Ah well, I've just been testing a way to very quickly remove them so they can be resused, so the more they leave up the better actually. More for me!

Ha ha. I think Fingal CoCo offer a cable tie recycling scheme after the election. I'm at a loss to how you get the cable ties down quickly without snipping them.

You can do it fairly quickly with a small flathead screwdriver or the tip of a stanley blade. It takes ages at the start, but gets much quicker. Still, a bit of tokenistic idea.

Perhaps if you have to put the candidate name on the ties as well...

I know that. I assumed iamian had found a quick way to do it without climbing up the poll.

If you unclip them as Pidge suggested with a small flat object (fingernails work for me but not for everyone) you can use them again. Just always remember when re-using ties to check that they still grip as some will inevitably lose their traction. A useful source of free ties for the next campaign if you act the good citizen and take down every tie you can

BOZG - If I ever come up with a tool that can unclip ties from the ground I'll let ya know. On second thoughts, maybe I'd keep that one secret in case every git and his dog uses it before polling day
