What exactly are the Green's planning?

I've seen a lot of chatter on other threads about "unpopular solutions" being required to solve our environmental problems and the General Election not being the best time to discuss them. Can I ask what exactly are the Green's planning if they get Government - in particular will they put economic stability and jobs first?

Comments from Green supporters like "moving to a wholly sustainable economy" or "Jobs have to be lost" are quite worrying...

As this stage people have a fair idea what all the other main parties are planning. Other than talk of a hike in CGT to 25% and the reintroduction of the Bank Levy at 5%, we've seen little or no hard facts from the Greens... so to be fair I think it's a legitimate question.

Why don't you just look up their policies on their website?

It's not like Green policies are some sort of dark secret known only to Trevor and John Gormley you know.

I've been detecting increasing panic from the FF posters for a couple of weeks now. You'll have to do a lot better than all these hysterical (but vague) dark hints about the Greens getting into power and doing a Pol Pot Year Zero on us all.

If the Greens are elected, the economy will, in a matter of hours, revert to an agrarian barter-based society.

Car owners will be executed on sight, and then burned.

A new tax rate of 4,000% will be introduced on all consumers of oxygen.

Thank you for your interest in the Green Party, Maximus.

Check out our policy section on our website Maximus. It's quite comprehensive. Unlike FF, we're quite honest about what we stand for.

I did actually take the time to read Dan Boyle's Tax Policies, the only figures mentioned were the 25% for CGT and the 5% Bank Levy.

For example they are proposing to build 50,000 over five years, this will cost c. 14 billion euro, I think it's reasonable to ask how they intend to fund these major programs?

    Build 50,000 what?

I think it's a bit rich for a supporter of the current Government that have wasted billions every year for a decade and are promising an endless list of tax cuts and spending plans in this election to be asking "But where will the Greens get the money?"

Where does Bertie plan on getting the money for all his promises?

€2bn a year isn't much to find if we stopped wasting so much cash every year.

The National Development Plan 2007-2013 which has been costed by the Department of Finance allows for €33.6 billion for social infrastructure housing, health, justice, etc. Of that, it actually allows €22.2 billion for the provision of 140,000 new homes through a mix of schemes.

I never said the Greens plans for 50,000 homes were off the wall, I just asked how they intended to finance them, €14 billion is a fair whack of cash what ever way you look at it.
