So I assume they will turn off the lights, prompters and microphone during John Gormley's address at 8.30 on Saturday, March 27 as they want us to observe it?
Suppose it'll be their excuse for the low tv ratings...

This is actually a good thing, because now our friends in the infotainment business (ie the media) will focus on the fact that Earth Hour coincides with the speech, rather than the speech itself, thereby drawing attention to Earth Hour, which is far more important than the content of any conference speech.
A demagogue is someone who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots.
I don't mean this to be a Green-bashing post but I think they have to accept that the next general election will be very bad for them.
So what is the Green Party's best strategy for the next general election?
In 2007 they contested every constituency, next time should they just contest the 12 or so where they have Oireachtas members or councillors, move all their resources into damage limitation and defending their current seats?
Or realising that they are not going to be able to hold seats should they contest everywhere with the hope of maintaining bases for seats at the next local elections?
It is argueable that the gutless Greens have done more to subvert democracy in this country than their current FFF handlers. Many people who voted for them in the last election would have either switched from another party, been first time voters or perhaps little old ladies who felt they were partaking in a 'new' process that would do good.
The Greens have shafted all those voters and by so doing deserve all that's coming to their self serving selves but the greater damage is done to the incentive to go out and vote in elections.
I don't agree with the mainstream narrative of global warming, etc. but's let's say that maybe at some point the green party (or even elements within) had some decency, ethics, some good ideas... it is like a great and unique violinist joining a very bad orchestra, he must conform and take direction from the conductors at the apex of the governmental system. And then it gets worse, that governmental/Irish system has to exist within the context of an even more sh1tty and corrupt global system of (non-governmental!) 'governance'. In the final equation, everyone in power is bought (and everyone else is sold!). And that is presuming that there was a substantive element of good intentions to begin with.
