    Re-evaluation of Sargents Resignation

Trevor was lauded as taking a principled stand when he resigned following his clumsy attempt at interfering with a Garda investigation. Is it time to look at his real motives?. I have been told that his position may also have been up for rotation.

Is this true ? if so his resignation was just a cynical ploy to make the best of the terrible place he was in. Facing a loss of his junior ministry and loss of credibility through his crass interference in the law.

Spin, rotation, resignations and god knows what else is making us all dizzy! Who really cares any more? Every day we have a brand new scandal. We are punch drunk at this stage.
Why does Ireland need any more jobs?. There are not enough people to fill the jobs from the last referendum.

Plenty to complain about with this government, but I see nothing wrong with the principle of rotation.
It's better than hanging on to a perk of a job for all you're worth, in order to use it to distribute largesse.
If there is a future, it will be Green.

Look the guy resigned quickly after being caught out.

That is not perfect of course but it is a hell of a lot better than most of our politicans. Stop complaining - we need to encourage them to resign quickly when they get caught. Better still not to do stupid things in the first place...

That might be true were it not for the following facts:

    1. The new vegetable is just as incompetent as the vegetable outgoing.
    2. The rotation is agreed years in advance in a secret deal, not on any basis but as an internal party mechanism for obtaining support amongst fellow vegetables. As always, the people of the country do not feature in discussions, it's merely power politics for the party.
    3. The rotation gives another person the chance to enjoy the even larger largesse as Minister. Ex-Minister will continue to enjoy just large largesse.
    4. All Green Ministers so far have proven themselves very capable of appointing friends to state boards to revel in the largesse. Which just disproves your only point.

The Greens are no better than FF. When will they merge? Wouldn't it be easier for us all just write Fianna Glas rather than Fianna Fail and the Green Party?

I'd agree with this. People have problems with FF not changing ministers for too long, and when the Greens change them, they also disagree. Make up your minds please

There's a far more serious question to be asked - was this rotation deal so designed to keep the parlimentary party in line, safe in the knowledge that their rewards would come? Its not Green Party policy to rotate, the members didn't know about it, so that's not necessarily why they did it. Was Trevor just looking for an excuse to stand down and hand over to Mary White? If so, then it wasn't as noble a gesture as we first thought.

So he did it knowing that a Garda leak to the Herald was likely, if he didn't orchestrate it himself? Likely, much? And, er, why?...

He did something stupid out of fairly decent motives, got caught, resigned immediately rather than dragging it out like O'Dea. No fan of the Greens, but he's an obviously decent bloke.
