What a disgusting deal. If ever there was a party equal of using politics and government for the betterment of their own positions, wages and pensions it's the vegetables. Would they ever f**k off, they're a disgrace to the office they hold and an utter sham.

Despite the exposure that has been given to Ryan , in regard to his "squirmiming" in the O`dea gate affair,,,
The point is that while it was obvious that he had complete contempt of willie wee, he still voted full confidence in him, this was a slap in the face , not just for green supporters but for democracy in general.

This weekend's Phoenix (now online for those who have a subscription) has an interesting take on this as their lead story - the rotation thing is much bigger than we might think.

    - Gormley did a deal with Sargent to support him as first party leader, then tried to angle to him to get the gig in order to have a bigger profile to tackle Michael McDowell in Dublin South East

    - Instead of becoming leader, he was given first dibs on any cabinet job if they got into Government

    - During the FF/Grn/(PD) negotiations after the '07 election a deal was being hammered out to allow all of the Green TDs have a go at being minister, this (it's suggested by Phoenix) is to ensure no dissent by parliamentary party members when times got tough

Gormley’s calculation was that unless TDs Mary White, Ciaran Cuffe and Paul Gogarty were rewarded with a partial share of the spoils of office, support for coalition would be harder to sustain as the going got rougher.
    - Eamon Ryan is being left alone in his cabinet job in exchange for him not challenging for the leadership

Very interesting. Shows their evolution from a party of protest to a party of self-interested gombeens.

I think now we know why they've put up with so much from FF and been so quiet about some of the issues.

Do the green membership not care about not being told ??

And poor Eamon Ryan. Everybody knew except Eamon.

The people involved in the deal must have known but in a parlimentary party of 8 they kept it from Eamon.

The people who were involved in the deal must have known but never told Eamon.

Dan Boyle knew and told De burca but no-one told Eamon.

My grannys cat knew but Eamon didnt.

No way, not a chance, Eamon just never knew !!!
I believe that children are the future

    Unless we stop them now.

This is almost unbelievable. The blatant deception and two faced nature of this is almost unbelievable. But not so unbelievable as this is the Green Party we're talking about.

Ryan was either being kept in the dark about this, or he himself was lying. RTE reported that "Mr Ryan said he was not aware of any agreement reached to rotate senior ministerial posts among party members" link. Is it believable that Dan Boyle and the other Green ministers knew about this but Ryan didnt? Is this the way the Greens do business? What other secret deals do we not know about?

I'm amazed that the Green grassroots are not rebelling over this.

The Green Party espouse transparency, fairness and democratic decision making processes. They say they are the most important things in politics. It was Gormley himself who said in 2007 "The gombeenism has to end, my friends".

Instead the gombeenism continues unabated. It's the rule of law on Planet Gormley.

Well, for a start, there's the secret deal that enables the Green Party to support fluoridation, despite their long-held principles, policies, and promises.

And there's the secret deal that enables the Green Party to support the military use of Shannon Airport by a foreign army for an illegal war, in direct contravention of the sixth founding principle of the party.

And so on. I fear the list of secret deals could be very long indeed.

15 Jan 2001 -- Fine Gael pledged to end fluoridation because of "serious health concerns".

Eamon Ryan has confirmed that the deal is real but is a matter for the Taoiseach to consider.

    This up on breakingnews.ie:

Communications Minister Eamon Ryan has confirmed to TV3 that its story that John Gormley would be replaced by Ciaran Cuffe in the forthcoming Cabinet reshuffle as part of the pre-arranged deal is accurate.

Cuffe made headlines last December for shouting expletives at Labour Deputy Emmet Stagg during a Dáil debate.
Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

Did Ryano know all along, or just find out?

Or did he know, but then forget, and mis-remember as a result?
We have turned the corner.I commend this Budget to the House. Brian Lenihan, 9 December 2009
