“Vote Eamon Ryan No. 1 so that in Government he can …..”

I just did a post with some Eamon Ryan material from 2007

    Contained within is this
I know it was before the agreed programme for government etc (and they probably thought they'd be in with FG and Labour)

Of course economic circumstances have changed but of whats listed there whats been achieved?......

-Affordable housing -Yes but due to property crash rather than Green policy.

-Public Transport -Less buses? A Luas to Cherrywood and not forgetting the free bikes in town.

-Support parents with young children -reduced childrens allowance, got rid of stage payments , education cutbacks so class sizes are bigger ....but have a years free pre school now

-Deliver a proper health care system - Nothing

Develop a new Green economy -BER ratings and SEI grants....

I'm sure I must have missed a lot

Nothing, because it never existed in the renegotiated PFG.

Just on the public transport item. Where I live there was only 1 bus which went directly into town on time for a 9am start. It now stops at Donnybrook garage meaning that a bus change is inevitable. The bus was always full.

Now everybody gets off on the dual carriageway and quesup with the hundreds waiting in Stillorgan. Extra ten minutes at least. No chance ever of a seat from there.

    Not that old chestnut.

What percentage of power has wind created for the last 3 months ?

1 windy day does not make a secure power source.

Do you want to discuss what the effect of all this wind capacity has had on our electricity prices ?
Or how many gas power stations had to be built to act as backup ?
Or how much was spent on the grid to allow large amounts of small, unviable, wind farms to be connected and what that cost ?

    Fishing with dynamite eh?

Let's look at the wind generation figures for January and February

It's also disingenuous for Ryan to claim any credit for wind farm expansion when those policies were in place before he took up office.

EDIT: Sparkey, you beat me to it.

well you missed one thing. The BER was introduced in 2006. See: S.I. No. 666 of 2006, with a grace period to Jan 1st 2009... Dick Roche signed the paperwork... and it came out of...

Directive 2002/91/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2002 on the energy performance of buildings...

ps: the dublin bikes was a Dublin Cty Council (lab) idea, the LUAS to cherrywood commitment was long in place....

Its about 15%, but you know what, we're still building turbines.

How about we discuss the effect of inexorably rising oil prices on electricity prices too?

    None. Energy can be stored.

But its perfectly reasonable to blame him for budgetary cutbacks that arise out of spending splurges that occured prior to 2007.
