It is correct that Sargent resigned and fair play to him he didn't turn it into a circus. I'm curious as to the timing. He made the representation to the Gardai 2 years ago? How come its coming to light now and who is responsible for releasing the letter to the Herald? Fellas around here are saying this is FF revenge. I find that difficult to believe, its hardly benificial to FF to further destabalize the govt.

On the 17 April 2002, Mr Sargent spoke in the Dáil on the resignation of Bobby Molloy due to approaches to a judge's office regarding a rape case.

He said: 'Any representation relating to a court case ought to be acknowledged with a warning about the need not to interfere in any way with due judicial process.'

Actually, the Act is about the DPP, and section 6 refers specifically to communications with the DPP or his agents.

This is yet another sideshow though, you'd want politicians to sort the mess were in not bicker over this.

I don't see what he did as "perverting the course of justice".

He believed that the Gardai should interview more witnesses to the headbutting of Mr McGowan.

As Senator Boyle recently said: There will be a few more chapters to this.
