"A spokeswoman for the North Dublin politician said today: “Trevor Sargent made representations on behalf of a constituent who came to him after he was assaulted.

“Having heard the circumstances of the case, Mr Sargent asked the local gardaí to look into the case, particularly as the constituent feared for his personal safety,” she said."

    Spin? or what?

This is a longstanding rot in the body politic, as you rightly point out the stunning example of MGQ, other ones that come to mind would be the Cosgrave administration in the 70's, who took a West Midlands approach to justice. It would set a good precedent in this rotten borough, if the Trev goes.

I doubt Ahern had anything to do with this. Remember the hot water he got into over this?

But the constituent for whom he acted for was subsequently convicted of threatening and abusive behaviour and fined €500.

how about a third option in the poll: It's too early to know.

If all this is true of course he does but a little time for the dust to settle before calling for heads might be needed.

On News at One Paul Reynolds just said that it might not be as balck and white as it is, implying that it seems black and white.

And also suggested that there may be a criminal charge against Trev.

    Sargeant is gone.

    Criminal offence.
Unenthusiastic about any of the buggers.
