It seems that both the constituent and the Guards ended up with this letter.
    You are correct.

The Gardai had the letter from Saint Trev to the constituent.

This important piece of information points to the source of the information being the Gardai or whoever they gave the information to.

Presumably there's some protocol in place for dealing with a minister attempting to meddle in a criminal case that would involve either the Dept. of the Taoiseach or the Dept. of Justice.

Ah... As other posters have pointed out, it wouldn't be surprising if politicians stashed stuff like that for future use. Hard to see any benefit for Cowen slipping it to a journo.

They're convinced their dirty tricks will work, having successfully played Boyle, however Kenny being dumped is also part of their plan

Virtually every budget of the past 10 years has been leaked in advance of budget day. Did anybody do anything about this, which is also a criminal offence under the Official Secrets Act.

Em, some evidence of this conspiracy theory? Like what FG said in the house, FF getting their own back seems more like it.

Now is not a good time for Fianna Fail people to be pointing the finger about dirty tricks
after one of their so called star performers was kicked out of his job for same against
a S,F opponent and what was evan worse as Miriam Lord said today was to try to pass the blame on to the reporter, then to bring the Dail into the mire they voted complete confidence in this man, Sargent made a stupid mistake, he did not stand around looking for backers, He restored a a small bit of dignity to the Dail after the disgrace of last week,,

If that's true please give me a link. I'm quite determined to get rich quick.

Are you seriously suggesting FF would purposely destablise their own Government!?

Its obvious from the co-ordinated statements that started yesterday
