    Paul Gogarty is a Joke

In light of the Motion of No Confidence that is (perhaps was with the motion of confidence being tabled today... it's bloody condusing) I sent this email to all the Green TD's.

    Dear ________ ,
Your party’s 2007 manifesto stated “Public respect for the practice of politics has reached
an all-time low, particularly amongst the young.” Your party promised to change this if elected to government.
Now you have an opportunity to fulfill your campaign promises and show Ireland’s young people, myself included, that politicans deserve respect, to show them that low standards cannot be accepted in high places.
Next week, opposition leader Enda Kenny will be tabling a Motion of No Confidence in the Minister of Defence Willie O’Dea in light of his misleading the High Court with a sworn affidavit. He is a qualified barrister so knows full well the legalities of an affidavit, it was not an honest mistake.
The electorate, to which you are answerable to, deserves better standards in government and therefore I urge you to support the Motion of No Confidence in the minister. His continued presence in Government only supports the argument that politicians do not deserve the respect of this nation’s youth,
    Paul Gogarty's reply:
And was Enda denying that he rang Trevor Sargent in May 2007 asking him to talk to Sinn Féin regarding the formation of an alternative Government showing public respect for the practice of politics?

I was right beside Trevor that day. And in denying he made the call for his own political purposes he has shown (along with his party's dodgy rezoning votes) that Fine Gael are no better than Fianna Fail. The only question then is whether having Green influence is better than having none.

    I would argue the latter.
    What is he on about?
How is this man in the Dáil?

This issue has nothing to do with Fine Gael being good or bad nor Labour or Sinn Féin for that matter, it is about standards in government. I sincerely hope that Gogarty does not represent the views of the entire Green parliamentary party...

Some of us realised that before the good people of Dublin Mid West elected him in 2002.

Paul Gogarty's presence in the Dail is a beacon of light, a ray of hope......for any irrational, foul-mouthed, loose cannon tree-hugger with aspirations to becoming a TD.

... well he wouldnt be in the Dáil.

Got to agree with the thread title though the content of his reply to the op doesnt really back up the case.

That was his answer in entirety.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the issue I raised with him.

All he does is criticise FG which has nothing at all to do with his support of a dodgy minister.

Ah come on, 'tis a bit like sending Dunphy to the bar and then letting him on live television. It's good value for money. He's clearly a loon. But the question is, how crazy were you thinking you might get anything sensible out of him. If he ran in my contituency I'd vote for him... Well maybe not. But I'd consider him ahead of a couple of the muppets of all parties likely to win seats. At least I might get a bit of entertainment.
