As a Taoiseach's nominee there is no by-election. Cowen just appoints her replacement. Financial consideration no doubt prompted her decision. She allegedly took on a big debt at the Euro elections, circa €80k was mentioned, and she did not get the 1/4 of a quota State funding leaving her with a heavy debt. I suppose this would have been a major consideration in taking stable employment at €120k rather the certainly of having no employment even the government falls which could happen at any time.

Another massive salary from the public purse from a person consistently rejected by the electorate...... isn't it great to have powerful friends
Free Marwan Barghouti ....or at least get Special AKA to record a song about him

If true it would be a hard blow to the Oireachtas in a time of crisis.

Yet another indication of the forthcoming doom facing Gormley and his hangerons. Good riddance to them. But why oh why does the taxpayer have to fund their exit?

People who lose elections or "retire" from political jobs should be excluded from these positions.
We are dragged down by a layer of thousands of bloody ex Heads of State, defeated T.D.s, etc. on Boards, Think Tanks, EU and UN positions. Look at Blair, swanning about in an entirely invented and toxic role.

They should all be put in a retirement home, unless they can get themselves elected.
