Green Party delegate fails to get elected to committee of the European Green Party

From Derek Wall's blog ... "Irish Green Party delegate rejected"

From the blog ... "The Irish delegate to the committee of the European Green Party failed to be elected at the weekend and, I am told, only received a handful of votes.

This suggests that, while the European GP is certainly more pro-EU than the Green Party of England and Wales and while the GPEW is rather more to the left, scepticism about the Irish Green Party is not just confined to Donegal Greens, West Cork Greens, GPEW Greens and Irish voters. It extends to the European Greens in general
    ."

Looks like the European Green Party and Greens the world over are beginning to see the Irish Green Party for what they really are ...

Hey Froggie, I can't read your post, however, as I assume it refers to Derek Wall's blog from yesterday. I would say that Derek Wall seems to be a bit confused.

Firstly, the EGP committee was elected 3 weeks ago and not at the weekend.

Secondly, I was told (by friends of mine in the German Greens who were at the convention) that the only reason the Irish candidate was unsuccessful was because the EGP didn't want a member from both Ireland and England on its committee for reasons of geopolitical representation and that Steve Emmott of the GPEW got the nod after failing to be accepted in his application to be treasurer of the EGP.

It certainly had nothing to do with the fact that Irish Greens are in government, which seems to be supported by all European Green parties except a certain number of English Greens - most prominently Derek Wall.

PS - there is no point responding to me, as I can't see your posts, I am just posting this a factual counterpoint in case anyone other than the usual suspects reads your threads.

Hi zeleneye ... nice to hear from you again! But didn't you say you'd never contact me or reply to any of my posts again? Remember that time a few months ago where you bombarded me with multiple abusive and insulting pm's, some within a few minutes of each other (I can post these as proof if needed). I suggest that says a lot about you and the quality of your arguments, so you'll excuse me if I take all you have to say with a rather large pinch of salt ...

Anyway in reply to some of your points ... you can spin this all you wish (learning well at the feet of your FF masters grasshopper!), but the bottom line here is that the Irish GP delegate got just a handful of votes and failed to get elected. You can give all the excuses you wish, but he FAILED TO GET ELECTED.

And this was because of the "skepticism" (I'd use a stronger word tbh) that exists about the Irish Green Party. This "skepticism" is not just confined to the humble OceanFrog and Derek Wall ... it extends to promiment members and ex-members (Arthur Doohan, Patricia McKenna, Bronwen Maher, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc) the Donegal Greens, the West Cork Greens, and the GPEW Greens.

Oh, I almost forgot ... it also extends to the Irish voters.

Can you provide one single shred of evidence that "all European Greens" except some in the GPEW support the Irish Greens in Govt?

I believe the European Greens have some very mixed feelings, and some are openly opposed/hostile to many of the Irish Greens in Govt policies (NAMA and Tara spring to mind). This is the real reason the Irish Green delegate failed to get elected.

I acted as a teller for the Lib dems at the last british local elections...there was a UK green doing it for his party,...he spent a lot of time talking about how much the irish greens had let the rest of them down

The Irish Greens have let us all down.

The European Greens were correct to reject the Irish Green delegate because association with the Irish Green Party can only do harm to the European Greens. Irish Green Party member Declan Waugh said it best ... "As a environmental scientist if I wish to continue to build support in the community for sustainable development and green ideologies I find all of my work in attempting to build a low carbon future is now in jeopardy as a consequence of my association with the (Irish) Green Party."

If Declan Waugh's environmental work is jeopardised by being associated with the Irish Greens, who can blame the Euro Greens for thinking that they too will be damaged by association with the Irish Greens?
