    Green Party to launch document on urban planning

    The Green Party will launch a document on urban planning today, in a Dublin cake shop. A spokesman said the blueprint would make recommendations for the sustainable development of cities, towns and villages.

    This may be the first ever coherent planning policy released by a political party. Hopefully!!! Not on their site yet though. Can someone post a link when available?
    We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

    No doubt Jim Connelly from the Irish Rural Dwellers Association will be on the radio before too long condemning the Greens for enforcing urbanisation on the country...

    public transport for cork

    The Green party proposes a luas style system for cork city linking mahon to ballincollig via the city. This is a fantastic idea and well needed for cork as all the public has at the moment is clapped out buses dating back to 2000 and 2003. The current government dont want to listen to the people of cork because its outside dublin. Cork needs to be taken serious in regards transport for instance the no 3 bus stops running after 9 beacuse of safety issuses this has being addressed by many councillers green and not green the Green party also proposes a river taxi running along the harbour to cobh and passage these are real solutions to real problems[/b]

    I was asked on the thread on Waterford why the Greens didn't propose a LUAS for that city. Obviously I can't answer that, so I'd like to ask are the proposals for Cork and Galway election oriented or are they for real? And why wasn't Waterford considered?

    I can see how this policy will be implemented:

    FF will resist any implementation of policy.
    Problems associated with bad planning will thus get worse.
    It will become generally known among the electorate that we are the worst urban planners in Europe.
    Public pressure for change will build, FF will steal elements from Green's policy and present them as their own.
    FF will thus implement their new urban policy at a snails pace, and promote a few high profile elements as evidence that they are delivering.
    Public support for FF will rise.
    Public support for Greens will fall - public will see them as being just jealous moaners.
    FF returned to power for forseeable future.

    The End.
