Why do the Greens seem to hate the lower paid ?

I think The Green Party should be more sympatetic to the lower paid workers - most of us can't afford cars or frequent flights, we have no choice but to use environmentally friendly bicylces or public transport or walk. We can't afford to waste electricity or food or heating, or throw out stuff with getting the full use from it. I speak as someone on 13 euros an hour, and I believe most other low waged workers are good green citizens growing their own stuff where they can, and making sure they recycle as much as possible in the green bin.

So why is it that the Green Party seems to hate us so much - In particualar threatening all these extra taxes - like the water charges and "site value tax" - both of which will be really unfair to the lower paid, as they will take a much bigger slice out of our (small) incomes, than any income based tax.

Is it a class thing because the Green Party TD's (in particualar Eamon Ryan) are very well off themselves ?

    Yes it's a class thing

Why else did they support every cut that FF has brought in over the lifetime of the government? The Bankers and Developers friends Gormless and Ryano made sure NAMA would look after their investments as well.

To show how they hate the lower paid they insisted on a joke carbon tax that will increase inflation on everything and in turn will hit the poorest hardest and of course the aged and the social welfare recipients.

They truly could not stoop any lower.

I was more than surprised last Wednesday night. Mary White was in The Late Date.

When she was asked about Social Welfare Cuts, her reply was that her lips were sealed and said not another word on the subject.

However, when she was asked about third level fees, she was very vocal and defended her no fees stance.

To me, it certainly appeared a 'class thing'.

I gave second preferences to Greens in the past. Not to the one who tried to sell "green" products to me mid-canvass though.

    Never again, of course.

If working class people voted, they wouldn't vote Green.

The pillars of sustainable development as defined at the landmark Rio conference are the social, the environmental and the economic. Despite what tabloid-level commentators might say about middle class tree huggers etc., environmentalists are generally aware that economic equity is essential to an environmentally sustainable system. Everyone in the Greens understands this theory but they have been captured by the game of politics in the Ireland, of which the toxic and ideology-free FF club are masters. The Greens can not ever help achieve a more sustainable Irish society so compromised and ruined are they by their dalliance with the devil.

I personally doubt that the political system we have here now can achieve anything towards sustainability anyway. It's encourages short-termism, misleading and backstabbing whilst sustainability requires long-termism, openness and accountability.

We are fvcked, and the Greens have done their little bit towards that.

Any facts and figures to back that up , I have strongly suspected that for a long time but cant seem to find anything on it ,it seems apply to the major urban areas only though.
