    Green Party National Convention

The Green Party National Convention will be held in the Silver Springs Hotel, Cork from the 13-15 May, where elections for the new NEC will take place, motions will be discussed, pints (and people) drunk etc. So who's going? How will it go? Etc.

    Etc.

I heard something strange...they are debating coalition options!

Does this mean that they would go in with FF, fight the election alone or are they just trying to posture to get policy concessions from our future Taoseach?

It gets worse, I just read the Trev reccomends not joining the rainbow pact.

    WHY?

and does this mean the end of the alternative govt?

I think TRev is playing the right move. the greens need to forge a consenus and sipport across bases. a pact with Labour and FG could see them spending more time defending their well off seats against advances from the other two.
Labour could take a leaf from this book. The greens could make great ground with a solid independent and undiluted message.
LAbour will merely be FGs girlfriend. im sure that Trev will consider coalition after any election.

he's probably terrified of the fact that all of their 6 seats are facing threats of one kind or another at the elction.
FG are targeting 4 of them

The membership resoundingly rejected a pre-election pact at the conference and rightly so.
Because active members are well aware that our so called coalition "partners" were going around during local/european elections telling people on the doorsteps that voting for Greens was a waste of time, since it was a done deal that they'd be in coalition with FG/Labour and that it'd make much more sense to vote for those bigger parties(FG were especially guilty in this regard)
    What goes around, comes around.

Anyone see the 6.1 news ?
Eamon Ryan said something to the tune of: "We need to be firm and decisive - so we have to postpone this decision until next year"

And this guy wanted to be President!

This very decisive "wait-and-see" strategy bodes ill for his hopes of ousting Sargent

Sargent's oratory style was a lot more confident and assertive this year compared to last year. Maybe he's decided it's time to put Ryan back in his box.
