Green Party contemplates Fianna Fáil coalition

The Green Party has refused to rule out a coalition with Fianna Fáil after the next general election.

Last year Green Party members voted against forming any coalition pacts before this year's general election.

However party TD Ciarán Cuffe said if the numbers stack up, he could be in favour of a Fianna Fáil - Green Government.

“I would hate to rule out the biggest party in the state. Certainly I'd be more comfortable working with other parties,” he said.

So you've got one TD who who won't rule it out, yet still says he'd be happier with a coalition of other parties and a leader who says he'll resign rather than go into coalition with FF. My, you really are taking a very selective meaning out of the stated GP position aren't you!

Tell me is it still the FF partyline that we're a bunch of crazies who destroy the country? Or has that been conveniently dropped too?

God forbid that you might put some partisan spin on a story then.

I'd prefer Dave Angel, Eco-Warrior from the Fast Show

or maybe John Deasy might be up for the job.

Firstly I would like to think that he should concentrate on holding his own seat rather than talk about the next govenememt, and when he is talking about the largest party who is talking about is FF with 79 seats in the dail or FG with 5 MEP's and controlling almost every county council across the country, not to mention the fact that he did not rule out a coalltion with FG/L also

Indeed. I, too, wonder which party he could have meant?

Next time Green canvassers call to my doorstep, they'll need to give me an assurance that a Green/FF coalition is ruled out. This country has been ruled by idiots for far too long, we need a clean sweep to brush the incompetent incumbents from their Ministerial Mercs. If the GP intend to prop up the likes of Roche, the Wicklow Windbag, Minister for the Desctruction of the Environment, they won't get my no. 99, let alone my no. 1!

If any GP candidate gives you such an assurance then don't vote for them either, as they'll be lying. The membership will make the decision on government after the election, if the issue arises, and nothing has been ruled out. However I think it's fair to say that I don't know a Green Party member who would vote to go into government with Dick Roche as Minister for the Environment.
Worth breaking my "no sig" rule for:
