    Green Dublin Euro Candidate 2009

Given the parties interest in European affairs, the historical link with the EP [1994 was a major breakthrough for us] and our strenght in Dublin, there will be a lot of interest in who is the GP candidate for the European Parliament in 2009 for Dublin.

Patricia McKenna, if she doesn't get elected next year, could always try and get back her seat. If any TDs dont get re-elected [god forbid] they could try and resurrect their career in Europe. We had a lot of success in the locals in Dublin, so that leaves us with plenty of councillors to choose from. Any failed Dail candidates might go, Bronwen Maher is a great candidate but in a tough constituency, so she could be an option [hopefully not, if you know what I mean i.e. she'll get elected next year].

Then there are candidates such as Roderic O'Gorman [DW] or Elizabeth Davidson [DSW]who might skip the locals and go for the EP, either winning [as McKenna did in 1994, having not won an election prior to it] or using it to boost their chances in 2012.

It's going to be an interesting question that will surface soon after the GE, when we know the lay of the land better.

Didn't Deirdre de Burca seek the nomination last time out? Do you think she'd have another crack at it?

I don't think the party will run anyone in the EP elections with the idea that it would boost their profile for the locals. Given that we held an EP seat in Dublin for 10 years, that would represent a serious lack of ambition.
Worth breaking my "no sig" rule for:

Bray is in the Dublin Constituency, but as someone pointed out to me, she is very likely to get elected so it is a moot point. That being said, if she wasn't to, she might go.
Yeah, you're probably right about running someone just to boost their profile. But the selection convention may decide to go for a 'fresh face' and take a risk with someone new.

This thread doesn't seem to be going anywhere, I think I'ld better make it more 'p.ie friendly' :

Also, with loads of immigrant votes to get, we should run someone who's black

Patricia McKenna, if she doesn't get elected next year, could always try and get back her seat. If any TDs dont get re-elected [god forbid] they could try and resurrect their career in Europe. We had a lot of success in the locals in Dublin, so that leaves us with plenty of councillors to choose from. Any failed Dail candidates might go, Bronwen Maher is a great candidate but in a tough constituency, so she could be an option [hopefully not, if you know what I mean i.e. she'll get elected next year]. By 2009, of course, there could be so many immigrants that a campaign will be impossible.

Then there are candidates such as Roderic O'Gorman [DW] or Elizabeth Davidson [DSW]who might skip the locals and go for the EP, either winning [as McKenna did in 1994, having not won an election prior to it] or using it to boost their chances in 2012. As long as the candidate can beat SF/IRA scum, it shouldn't matter who we run.

It's going to be an interesting question that will surface soon after the GE, when we know the lay of the land better. Another interesting question is whether the EP has a right to exist at all. I mean, it wasn't even in the 1916 proclamation!

There, that should kick things off

    Love the edits.

The answer is of course, quite simple - me. I'm ideal for the job, easy on the eye, adore Europe and know everything about everything. Plus I want it, and I will kick and stamp and cry until I get it.

Also I think that on a good day there's a good chance of the 2 front runners (McKenna and DeBurca) getting into the Dáil. Now I may not be a woman, but I am gay, so it's good for the old diversity. I'd walk it, no question

Not really. Most handsome men are gay. Just like all women with short hair are lesbos.
