    Are the Greens Finished?

NAMA is without doubt the final nail in the coffin of the Green Party.

99% of the population are furious about NAMA, furious with Cowen and furious that the Greens are propping him and FF up.

Come the next GE, it seems certain the Greens will return at most 1 TD if they are lucky.

Their county council base is decimated. They haven't a hope of an MEP for decades to come. And once they are out of government, Dan Boyle can kiss goodbye to his Senators seat as well as the other Green Senator.

Like the PD's the Green influence on Irish political life will become non existant. They have already lost all credibility, no-one will listen to them again.

On the one hand their agenda is anti corruption and anti dodgy developments which ruin the land. While on the other they are in government rescueing the developers and propping up a party famous for over development, backhanders, bribery and corruption.

The Greens surely cannot be taken seriously at any future election, having already turned their coats inside out on a number of occassions, and supporting NAMA, an agency set up as a result of FF corruption and greed.

If they walked out on FF now then they could save themselves for a return in the future.
They’ll always have the hairy, whale lovers supporting them, but average Joe won’t touch them with a ten foot pole made of hemp if they continue along their current path.

Yes, I guess it will be back to votes from long haired sandal wearing eccentrics again.

Capachino man or woman, who thought the Greens would rescue the country from FF corruption have been very disappointed. They thought voting Green meant voting against FF.

    They had their trust betrayed.

The sad thing is even if the Greens pulled out, and there was a GE and they saved a number of seats and FF got a reasonable number of seats, the Greens would go back in with FF again.

    Yes

As they currently are they are finished

I would suggest that any members of the Green Party need to break away from their leadership and redefine themselves as they once were not the hybrid Fianna Fail supporters, friends of the Banks and Developers that they have let themselves become.

On the contrary , i believe the 'uber' hippies you are describing wouldnt touch the greens with a barge pole . They are too idealistic and usually want action over spin .

The PDs were in Government for 17 years of thei 22 years of existence. For the other 5 years they had more TDs than the Labour Party.

I predict the Greens will have an even bigger and more lasting effect.

On the one hand their agenda is anti corruption and anti dodgy developments which ruin the land. While on the other they are in government rescueing the developers and propping up a party famous for over development, backhanders, bribery and corruption.
The alternative being to prop up the other Party which is famous for over development, backhanders, bribery and corruption.

The Greens surely cannot be taken seriously at any future election, having already turned their coats inside out on a number of occassions, and supporting NAMA, an agency set up as a result of FF corruption and greed.
NAMA is being set up to fix the problems caused by FF, FG and Labour.

If the Greens had been listened to all those years ago there would be no need for a NAMA.

So why don't you stick to criticising the people who got us into this mess instead of picking on the only people with a clue how to get out of it?

It's a shame that The Greens are going the way they are going. I certainly won't ever vote for them again. The seemed like a party full of intellects who actually wanted to serve the country and indeed the globe through the implementation of effective green policies, but in the end they're complicit in propping up the worst Government in the history of the state and should only be viewed in such terms.

The Transfers are finished. FG/LAB/SF wont bat an eyelid at not transferring to them, while FFers may start giving a single non transferable vote.

Regardless of what they do, they will be down to 2 seats in 2012. Should FF backbenchers pull out, the the Greens will be deemed spineless wonders, and will return with No seats at all.

The next leader of the Green Party is likely to be Patricia McKenna. This will occur as the lefty hippy clique return to the forefront of the party ! Naturally, they will be remembered as the party which propped up the most useless Government of all time, and never made the slightest inclination that they were on the verge of walk out. Their actions ensured Government stability was never under threat, and they happily voted against measures which would have been repugnant to them in 2006.

How dare they seek to insult us. And they will NEVER EVER hold a candle to the PDs when it comes to acting in the interests of Irish society.
