I was once in a church in Greece in the village that my then girlfriend was from. There was a large icon depicting what they considered to be a miracle that took place during WWII. As the German Army advanced on the village an earthquake occurred and swallowed some of the tanks whole. The icon depicted the BVM crush tanks under her foot with lots of little German soldiers being crushed to and screaming in pain. My ex tells me that people have recently started leaving little metal-prayer-plates (you find them in every church in Greece stuck into the frames of icons) in the icon asking for god/Mary to punish the Germans once more. The anti-German feeling is really ramping up in Greece - flags are being burnt and Germans are not being particularly welcomed anywhere.
