    O Brollachain's chance of a senate seat

With 2 senate seats now available could the greens push for one? If so would Galway's Niall O Brollachain be the front runner? I heard a few FFers saying that they would not be happy but you never know.

    Already a thread on this.

But since the guy can't even get a council seat, does he deserve a Seanad seat?

I'd say Ó Brollcháin deserves a senate seat; he's a good man and a hard worker.

Getting a council seat and deserving one are two completely seperate issues.

Sorry can't find thread only general discussion on who will get senate seat.
I'll press on for now-O Brollachain is a goo person in politics but he doaen't seem to strike a chord with the electorate maybe if given a profile he could squeeze out a seat at the GE with disgruntled FFers helping him out.
Id love to see how he would fare on a national stage.

There are loads of people who deserve a national stage but unless you can do the very basics at local level, why reward someone with a Seanad seat?

I don't doubt his bona fides, nor those os most GP politicians, but you need to do things right.

    Eamples:
Mary White's text tax to ring in 1 bn
Ciaran Cuffe's assertion that we should have 50 eur charge on flights.
Gormley's stance when Ahearn was caught lying.

It's all very well being in favour of mom and pop stuff, but you have to be a good politician as well. Niall O B should go back to the drawing board and fight like a tiger if that is what he believes in.

If he gets it, a whole bunch of FFers will be very displeased. Wouldn't do Cowen any good in terms of his relations with backbenchers and grassroots, and I don't think he's that stupid.

I think Niall would be great and I'd like to see him get it.

But how could it happen? These are not Taoiseach's nominees are they? There will have to be Seanad by-elections and aren't the electorate largely FG-Lab at the moment?
If there is a future, it will be Green.

Vacant Seanad seats are filled by a Dáil vote.

Lots of people would be great in politics but if they don't getthe votes, tough titties.

Shane Ross is by far the best performing senator, but I think his presence, and that of all senators, is a bloody disgrace.
