Elected Mayor

The Green paper has been published with plans for a directly elected Mayor of Dublin and options for other local authorities such as Galway City to decide on putting in place a directly elected Mayor themselves. This is on track and there should be a directly elected Lord Mayor of Dublin before the Greens leave Government. I'd love to see a directly elected Mayor of Galway. I'm sure that Padraic Conneely would be the obvious candidate if the local papers are to be believed.

Does it mention what powers these Mayors would have the funding?

Even if there was no powers as is the current position there would still be huge competition for the job. Presently the Galway Mayor is a job that involves cutting ribbons etc

Agree. With a city they should be called Mayor but what about for a county council region ? Mayor doesn't seem like a suitable title-what about Governor ?

The title isn't important to me, it is how that person is comes to power. In all cases, the person should be elected.
