Galway Races

Looking forward to it. The Arts festival is going better than ever with double attending this year than last despite the Water situation. A lot of buzz in the city for the races aswell with Eyre Square finished and most of the hotels already fully booked out. Looks like the water situation isnt as big a crisis on local tourism as predicted by some. Would you agree with this sentiment? What do you think of the Fianna Fail tent at the races? Personally I enjoy the week of the races with the whole city turning into one big pub and Quay street being absolutely black wit people.

I think its hugely overrated. I say this as someone from Galway, and someone who follows the Gee-Gees.
The racing is poor, with one good race per day (maybe). The good NH horses are summering, and the good flat horses are in Goodwood.
It also attracts of beered up idiots (sunglasses on head, cheap suit= men. too much fake tan = women) yapping loudly on their mobiles, and pretending they have inside info regarding the Dermot Weld runner in the first race.
I appreciate what it does for the city, but all it is is a glorified piss-up.

I agree with all of this, but like Rebelman, the last point is why I'll miss not being there this year! Although I understand the weather is shiite
