The Sports Hall in NUIG has been confirmed as the location of the count in Galway West. Is it true that to get into the count centre you have to know a TD?

How would that work? How would O Brolochain supporters get it? And independants and Sinn Fein. No its open to the public.
Another question which is far more important, will they keep the college bar open for the days of the count? Imagine a count and a bar side by side. They'd make a killing!
The count centre itself has to be open to the public. However, there will be a barrier between the public and the counting area. Normally each candidate is designated a fixed number of people as scrutineers, maybe 10 or 12, who act as the tallymen in co-operation with one another, they will be inside the public barrier within sight of the boxes as they open.
Cheers Kerrynorth, I meant to say that you have to know a candidate to get behind the barrier and that any member of the general public can get into the count centre itself. Thanks for clearing that up. Oh and the college bar will be open

NUI, Galway! If you don't mind. NUIG is not an accepted abbreviation of the University. Either use NUI, Galway or Ollscoil na hEireann, Gaillamh.

In Dublin City, you can't get into the building without a Count Pass. These are normally reserved for candidates (15 each, if I remember correctly). That's due to the sheer number of people involved in a Dublin count (all Dublin City constituencies are counted in one place - normally the RDS).
makes sense that in Dublin

Well now it means being at the count will be more fun than usual. See all you there, where we can bicker and moan in a much more sociable enviroment than online.Originally Posted by Príomh Aire

It should also be noted that after much heated discussion and academic soul-searching, the University decided some months ago that the comma was not an integral or indeed necessary part of the 'official abbreviation' - so 'NUI Galway' is now in common usage with the imprimatur of the college authorities.![]()
It'd be so much simpler of they stopped all this messing and went back to calling the place by its proper name...
