I've nothing personnally against the man, but i don't think he would get much done. In my own opinion, as far as i can see he wouldn't ruffle too many feathers.

I think another FG councillor in Galway, Padraig Conneelly would probably achieve more but he isn't as Politically correct as "Roy of the Rover" Councillor Brian Walsh.

He is always giving out about the HSE but is on the board himself.

Padraig Conneely, God help us.... I think i'd almost prefer Frank Fahey (who hasn't a prayer), well no but Conneely isn't far off him!

What about FF springing the Stroke Fahy for election. He would probably head the poll, poor fella, decent auld skin, and were not all good FF men in jail at some stage.
You'd think Kenny committed Treason and brought in IMF. Cowen had all in stitches in Galway at 3.30a.m.but he was "not impaired" -DD Power. FF=Publican páirtí an IMF.

In Galway west Labour - to my disgust - did not run a single candidate in the CoCo elections.

The fact that Stroke was allowed to run in Galway East was a disgrace - the Local Government act did not apply to him, as when he was in jail, he was officially sick - and bear in mind he is still a councillor, and who has again used his position to benefit himself.

But in dealing with Galway West it took a lot of work to get Jose Ban out, we wanted an end to rezoning of Clifden which often sited his business plans, his agressive behaviour so a lot of us who would be inclined to Labour voted for Eileen Mannion FG only because she was the best chance to displace him on his home turf of Clifden, and being a Mannion there was a core FG vote.

It was not easy to beat Jose, as he has three vote bases - in Clifden, Ballyconeeley and the Carna area in Ard, his mothers country.

Amhran Nua are making ground in the area, and will most likley run a new candidate or support a progressive next time out so there is another option.

In the area there are other candidates like Trevor Clougherty (SF, ex Labour) who was a very good candidate, but SF chose to run two candidates which was a tactical error n my opinion.

In Galway West we have problems, but there are a few good ones like Welby, in the city Catherine Connoly but in general we have, in the county as a whole, a bad batch to represent us

Is it a fact Labour ran no candidate in GW. Was there not one in Oranmore area. Maybe you mean Connemara. If Frank Fahy does not lose his seat there is no God.

I did mean Connemara, sorry about the typo, but it still goes to show that as far as Galway Labour is concerned, Ireland ends on the Corrib.
That is not to say I do not hold MD Higgins in high regard, but the party machine would not back him for the presidency, Galway West has become peripheral to the main body.
It was good however to see Dr Gerry Cawley in Mayo, so perhaps - until we get a list system - the West may get better representation on the left.

Well, Josey Ban is Fahys man in Clifden, O Cuiv has his stronghold in the Carna area.

Just to note there is a non partisan facebook group for Connemara, more to raise issues and let others know about local problems accross the region.
