Sinn Fein Assembley Member Cannot Put Question in Irish

SINN Fein has been told there is no provision for tabling questions in Irish at the Assembly in Belfast.

The party's Gaelic spokesperson; Francie Brolly yesterday bemoaned the fact that a query he has lodged for Education Minister, Caitriona Ruane cannot be put forward in Irish.

He was speaking on the same day that over 4,000 responses were made to a proposed new Irish language Act have been sent to the Executive, as a consultation period came to an end.

The draft legislation proposed that public bodies should specify measures for using Irish when providing services.

It also proposed the creation of an Irish language commissioner and giving people the right to use Irish in court.

It is thought officials from the Department of Culture will not finish analysing the responses until the end of the summer.

Ní shílim é, a Riadaigh. Chuirfeadh sé an-ionadh orm dá mbeadh sin fíor.

Is cuma sa ************************ faoi reachtaíocht agus ainmneacha ar phasanna agus teangacha oifigiúla srl. An rud is tábhachtaí go mba ceart do dhuine ar bith a dhéanamh ar son na teanga ná í a labhairt lena bpáistí .

I gcead duit, a major, agus aontaím lena bhfuil á rá agat ar dho/igh, ach is ar mhaithe leis an saol a bheas ag mo pháistí atá mé féin nuair a thugaimse tacaíocht do chearta teanga. Ní shábhálfaidh cearta teanga an Ghaeilge, cinnte, ach ba laige an teanga gan chearta a bheith acu...

Nah, bíonn rud eile i gceist ag duine don gcuid is mó má thugann sé Gaelic uirthi. Gan amhras air sin.

beidh vóta againn. is fearr liomsa an t-ainm Irish uirthi mar cuireann sé i gcuimhne do mhuintir na héireann gur leosan an teanga is nach mbaineann sé le mionlach beag eitneach amháin.
