Combined with their ban on the veil in public institutions, the French seem to be taking a stand against Islamification. Good luck to them.

What has the Armenian genocide issue to do with 'Islamification', other than an opportunity to stick it to the Turks?Originally Posted by Jozer

Well, yes. It's a swipe at a Muslim country that wants to join the EC. France has also stood up to the PC lobby by banning the veil (along with ALL religious symbolism) from public institutions.
It's not about the Armenian Genocide per se. It's about the fact that a modern nation would not make it a criminal offence to contradict state-approved historical orthodoxy.
(Except that Austria has done, and Britain will if Bliar gets his way).

Will the French clearly don't believe that, as they have made it a 'criminal offence to contradict state-approved historical orthodoxy', and have done so for years. Is France not 'a modern nation'?Originally Posted by Jozer

This is a bloody disgrace, whilst its was a genocide (although that definition is gradually being further and further diluted), and should be called as such. However to enforce this as law is ridiculous, and a severe limitation on freedom of speech.

This did happen of course but France bringing it up is a bit rich. The Vichy Government in France assisted Jewish extermination but it has been brushed under the carpet. During the Algerian independence struggle many massacres happened. Is that widely accepted in France.
Of course I could go on all day about who did what massacre and who will admit to it but in the end the Turks need to come to terms with their past maybe this will help. Also Germany was trying to bring in a similar law of not being able to insult your state across Europe about 6 years ago.
Would the Irish Government ever adopt a resolution accepting that genocide happened during the so-called famine of 1845-49?
