Jewish Ahmadinejad

I don't know how view this story really. An Iranian blogger who claimed Ahmadinejad is Jewish was arrested and is being held in a secret location. On one hand it's disturbing that someone could be arrested for saying the president has a Jewish background. But at the back of my mind I have a problem with the fact that if you want to tarnish or smear a political opponent or f**k-up someone's career you just have to accuse him of being Jewish.

Anyone who is undecided on the Israel/Palestinian thing, I'd recommend that they read the Jerusalem Post for a month and then decide.

I was once told 'fuck off back to your Rabbi' when I pointed out that no, I didn't believe the Wansee documents were faked. All the more comic as two gobshites on the same site were constantly accusing me of being a Lebanese Australian.

According to the article

The Iranian blogger who claimed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has Jewish roots is being detained by the authorities after he was arrested along with 150 university students earlier this week, according to sources in Teheran.

Dr. Mehdi Khazali, who reportedly participated in several recent opposition demonstrations, was reportedly summoned to a special court convened for religious figures, detained and transferred to an unknown location.
(my bold etc)

Evidently he's being arrested for other reasons, not that he'll be done any favours over the Jewish thing.

Iran just had its Tiananman Square moment. Who here is suprised that they're arresting demonstrators for frankly any reason? They're reportedly prosecuting a foreign embassy's employee too. A paranoid, repressive, undemocratic regime with links to terrorists across the Middle East. At least - at last- the veil has slipped, ironically.

What veil? Are you here to convince us that two months ago we thought it was a great place? I don't think anyone was quite that foolish, but some seen in Iran, greater hope for the middle east than anywhere else. Maybe we are right, but it seems that more likely we were not.

The protests weren't a Tiananman Square "moment", that's hyperbole but it is an interesting development in the nations history.

Criticize the country all you like, I really don't care, I have no strong feelings eitherway, but don't for even a second use any of this nonsense to justify an invas... oh sorry, an "intervention".

No-one wants to invade! Apart from discredited neocons.
