Despite the efforts of the BJP, is India not supposed to be a secular country anyway?

The BBC: The ruling overturns a 148-year-old colonial law which describes a same-sex relationship as an "unnatural offence".
I watched with glee, while your kings and queens, fought for ten decades for the gods they made.

Jai Hind! This is a huge step forward for the gay community in India and the fight against AIDS.

It's still quite a conservative country ironically enough - considering some of the stuff you'd see depicted on temple carvings such as those at Khajuraho.

The home ministry, however, has warned the court that overturning the law could “open floodgates of delinquent behaviour and be misconstrued as providing unbridled licence for the same”.

Conservative religious groups across the spectrum, including Hindus, Muslims and Christian representatives have echoed similar concerns.

I think people here will remember the same language being used by some of our political and religious leaders prior to the overturning of a similar law here in 1993.

Gay rights activists say such intolerance dates from colonial times and is completely at odds with the older Indian acceptance of sexual diversity. Hindu mythology has stories of deities temporarily changing their gender for amorous encounters. Transgendering Gods, eh?
