    Iran, Uranium, Congo, Propaganda, Murdoch.

    Here we go again;

Iran's plot to mine uranium in Africa
IRAN is seeking to import large consignments of bomb-making uranium from the African mining area that produced the Hiroshima bomb, an investigation has revealed.
A United Nations report, dated July 18, said there was “no doubt” that a huge shipment of smuggled uranium 238, uncovered by customs officials in Tanzania, was transported from the Lubumbashi mines in the Congo.

Tanzanian customs officials told The Sunday Times it was destined for the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, and was stopped on October 22 last year during a routine check.

The disclosure will heighten western fears about the extent of Iran’s presumed nuclear weapons programme and the strategic implications of Iran’s continuing support for Hezbollah during the war with Israel.
    Crock of shyte!

Iran has all the Uranium it needs within its own borders, but we know this story worked on the sheeple before, so lets run it out again.

I particularly love the scaremongering reference to Hiroshima in the first sentence, and the reference to U238!

U238 is not used in bombs, but U235 is. A Breeder Reactor can make Plutonium (a bomb making material) out of U238, but Iran has only just started constructing a Breeder Reactor, and it won't be completed for at least 10 years.

Also intermingled with that story is some nonsense about Iranian sleepers blowing up Nuclear Power Stations in the UK.
It has also emerged that terror cells backed by Iran may be prepared to mount attacks against nuclear power plants in Britain. Intelligence circulating in Whitehall suggests that sleeper cells linked to Tehran have been conducting reconnaissance at some nuclear sites in preparation for a possible attack.

    .....

A source with access to current MI5 assessments said: “There is great concern about Iranian sleeper cells inside this country. The intelligence services are taking this threat very seriously.”

    Lies, Lies, WingNut Lies.

The Murdoch media are softening us up for The War.

What amazes me is that they don't even go to the trouble of making their propaganda half credible. This one's even worse than the Saddam-Chad connection where they signed the document with the name of a minister who had resigned a year before.

In addition to the stupidly obvious point about getting the wrong isotope of Uranium (couldn't they even do a decent web search?) and the fact that Iran has enough Uranium of its own there are a number of obvious mistakes here.

“There were several containers due to be shipped and they were all routinely scanned with a Geiger counter,” the official said.
Yep, Dar es Salaam port routinely scans all shipping containers with geiger counters. They also have a peek with X-ray specs and transpose them into the 7th dimension to check out any quantum anomalies.

the uranium was transported from Lubumbashi by road through Zambia to the united republic of Tanzania.”

Lubumbashi is the capital of mineral-rich Katanga province, home of the Shinkolobwe uranium mine that produced material for the two atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.

The mine has officially been closed since 1961, before the country’s independence from Belgium, but the UN investigators have told the security council that they found evidence of illegal mining still going on at the site.
Scavengers have access to technology for the purification of uranium ore that is not available to the multi-national corporations who stopped mining the seam 45 years ago. They obviously have access to extra-terrestrial technology.

When we opened the container it was full of drums of coltan. Each drum contains about 50kg of ore. When the first and second rows were removed, the ones after that were found to be drums of uranium
Coltan was transported from Kivu (where it's mined) to Lubumbashi, a distance of over 1000km through rainforests where there are no roads whatsoever. It is literally impossible to travel from Kivu to Lubumbashi overland. It must be all of 20 years since anybody has travelled that route. Obviously, they have cargo spaceships. Although, why they didn't follow the normal direct route through Uganda or Rwanda remains a mystery. Maybe they get their spaceship fuel in Lumumbashi too?

With propaganda this sloppy, it looks like world war three could really be on the cards. Hizbollah hits Tel Aviv with a missile. Israel blames Tehran. Kaboom!

Its almost too easy to blow this crap out of the water. I mean Kissinger recommended to America's Iranian dictator, the Shah, that it'd be a good idea for Becthel and Co to make nuke plants for them given how much uranium ore it had - unfortunately he didn't last long enough.

This was back in the 70s, the ore was cheap and Iran's oil was expensive, now its the 00s and the same economic logic (if not, leaving aside, the environmental logic) applies but Iran needs to go half way round the world to find uranium when it is still sticking out of the ground back home....ffs

Still even if 90+% disagree, freedom and democracy must prevail to ensure that a future puppet Iranian regime will sign lucrative oil production 'sharing' agreements (psa) with foreign oil companies and build some all new nuclear plants!

But somehow I don't think they'll have the same General in charge of 'reconstruction'.

Its a well worn phrase, but an apt one - Military Industrial Complex

I'm not sure what outrages me most your pandering to leftist anti-American rot or the fact that an Irish person could be so ignorant to place the murderous and monsterous reigeme in Iran above the civilised democracy that is the USA.

Ignoring this so called propaganda, which by the way is totally irrelevant since the world doesn't care that Iran has uranium just that it plans to enrich it. The state of Iran is by far the most disgusting abomination on the face of the planet.

Women have no rights, female rape victimns are often put to death in the streets and there is video evidence of this. Women who engage in pre-marital relations also face the death penalty in public while there male accomplaces are whipped at best/worst.

I agree that the mullahs are a terrible lot, but what is the relevance to this thread?

Anybody who doesn't switch their brains off and swallow whatever dumbass propaganda is thrown at them is "pandering to leftist anti-american rot"? Beastly I say.

The issue is Right Wing American Lies!

There is no pandering to leftist anything, only a commentary on how the right have brought us another set of blatant lies in order to justify another pointless war.

Do you think it is okay to lie to people in order to lead them to war?

no, tell me the facts and let me decide, but your angle is that this is a lie, is the United Nations/ Tanzanian in on it?

i dont want a war with iran, i dont trust iran, i trust america maginally better. Is there different types of Uranium? i dunno, maybe there is 238 types.

but i do know that iran is a country that i wouldnt like to see having a nuke, reason being that they are fundamentalist.

This thread is irrelevent. The US and Britain do not need any flase propaganda and have not attempted to use any.

We already have a UN approved offer to the Islamic niightmare of Iran which attempts to persuade the Iranian people to trade enriching their uranium for a raft of eonomic benefits.

What good one this so called propaganda be since the world ALREADY KNOWS IRAN HAS URANIUM. Its utterly idiotic.
