A number of well informed commentators have been calling it a win for Ahmadinejad since the day of the elections. Other commentators have pointed to the campaign by the Rafsanjani-Mousavi camp to discredit the election even before it was held. Iranian elections in fact have a reputation for being comparatively well run.
Before the elections, an Ahmadinejad win was assumed to be inevitable: in the days running up to the vote rumours began to circulate of a surprise Mousavi surge (Ganley campaign, anyone?). This was in spite of the fact that Mousavi was not that well known and that he was agreed to have had his ass whupped in the Presidential tv debates.
