British Government attempt to ban the British National Party

Harriet Harmon, Deputy Leader of the UK Labour party is spearheading an attempt to effectively ban or essentially change the nature of the controversial British National Party, the Financial Times reports. The new equalities Bill will outlaw parties such as the BNP which has a bar on non indigenous Caucasians joining it. Previously, Ms Harmon also pushed through changes in non-discrimination laws which would allow political parties to prohibit white people from standing in certain constituencies.

With enemies like this, the BNP needs no friends.

I don't think the Great British Public will appreciate this one at all.

This woman has er 'ambitions' that would chill one's blood if ever fulfilled.

This is clearly and attempt to gag a growing political movement that is growing ever more popular and eating into the Labour Party's traditional working class vote.

No wonder they will try and stop it!

This will backfire on the BLP and lose, not gain them votes.

I despise new labour and work every day for their removal. I despise the BNP and work every day for their removal.
    Banning them wont work.

I despise the BNP, but democracy is democracy.

If people vote for them they should get a voice, then when Britain laughs at them and the party self destructs it will destory them.

Theyre a truly crazy racist party, its shocking that they have 2 euro seats when the whole of northern Ireland only has 3.

If the government bans them or makes victims out of them, it will probobly make the party stronger as anti-government voters could support them.
I doubt the majority of their suppoters are racists, the BNP are getting a protest vote and banning them will probobly increase their support.

What a ridiculous measure. An honest debate about immigration is the way to combat the BNP not legislation. If anything this will only help the BNP and help their claim that they are telling the truth and there is a conspiracy to cover it up.

Idiocy of the higest order. Why ban a party that reserves it membership for white people, and then ban white people from running for election in certain areas? Its utter lunacy. New Labour seem to be claiming to be fighting a racists party on the one hand, but are themselves enshrining racism into electoral law.

The very idea that someone should not be allowed to run in a democratic election based on the colour of their skin is in fact more abhorant that a party than bases its membership in skin colour. The electorate may choose to ignore the latter, but everyone is bound by laws that encourage discrimination. I am flabberghasted. What happned to the concept of a "colour blind" society?

If Labourt go ahead with this, the BNP could well defeat a racial law, like the one proposed, in the European courts. Hence New Labour would deliver a golden opportunity to the BNP to not only prove to their followers (and others) that what they have been saying is true, but defeat the government at an international level.

Harriet Harperson is just a nutter who wants discrimination against men and justifies it by saying women have been discriminated against so its ok. She is just a shrill of the highest order.

this title is a bit misleading they are not banning the BNP or any other party they are just bringing in legislation to stop them discriminating against people joining parties
