    Is this Mladic in 2008?

Bosnia's FTV has released a series of videos which they clam show Ratko Mladic over the last decade. One, which shows the former Bosnian Serb General walking in the snow, is allegedly from the winter of 2008.

BBC NEWS | Europe | Bosnian TV airs 'Mladic pictures'

Serbian Minister, Rasim Ljajic denied that any of the footage was less than eight years old and was designed discredit Serbia which hopes to join the EU.

EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn has said he also believes that the videos are not as new as is being claimed and pre-date at least, the formation of the current Serbian Administration.

One thing is certain, Mladic has spent a great deal of the last fifteen years living in relative security in Serbia proper, is he still under protection or is the release of the clips a stunt to undermine Serbia's credibility?

Most likely a stunt to damage Serbia's chance of further integration towards EU. Ollie Rehn said as much and he has not exactly been a great lover of Serbia in the past.

The next time some No to Lisbon type quotes the people of the Netherlands and their No vote, remember the Dutch Army handing their guns over to this psycopath and allowing him to take 7000 people and massacre them.
When I want an opinion on tulips, I'll consult the Dutch.

    Neutrality is cowardice.

Hold on a second, and don't let, you know, facts get in the way of your ranting.

While noone is going to say that the dutch acquitted themselves well at Srebrenica, to lay the blame entirely on them for that is utterly ludicrous.

Those troops were left sitting in the wind, with no back up. They were a lightly armed "peace keeping" force of 400 men, tasked by the UN with defending an area of ten square kilometres against an entire division of VRS with medium battle tanks and well emplaced artillery.

No air support, until it was too late. No reinforcements. No commander available to seek support from, as he was on his holidays. When they attempted to negotiate with the Serbs, they were killed by Bosniak irregulars, when they tried to stand, they were attacked by serb forces. The push against the city began in the morning of July 10 - it took 36 hours before the first air support appeared - one bombing run against abandoned serb positions.

Mladic and his forces didn't take the people just like that - most of the people fled into the surrounding area, and were captured and murdered later by the Serb forces. While I deplore that the UN, as you say, handed over their weapons, why not focus your anger at the UN who abandoned Srebenica entirely, rather than the 400 troops who were equally abandoned, becoming, effectively, hostages of the serb forces instead of actual peacekeeping troops.

Don't forget as well the utter betrayal of the Bosnian people at the end of the war - only when the Bosniaks had finally circumvented the ludicrous weapons embargo and had finally made significant military advances out of the Bihac pocket, even threatening Banja Luka, only then did the UN force the parties to the Dayton process - and ordered the Bosniaks to surrender almost all of the territorial gains they made in that last phase of the war.

Dont forget that in Srebrenica the Bosnian Army under the command of the equally odious Naser Oric, used the cover of the UN safe haven to attack Serb villages around Srebrenica massacring hundreds of innocent Serb civilians.

The civil war in Bosnia wasnt the good guys v bad guys, black & white situation like it was made out in the Western press. It was made up of all kinds of factions and allegainces changed accordingly (Bosnians and Croats, ertsewhile allies ended up on opposing sides before allying again in late 1994). The VRS had 2 Muslim Divisions under the command of Major Ismet Duheric while the Bihac Bosniaks fought with the Serbs against Izetbegovic's forces. One of the VRS commanding officers in Srebrenica was a Slovenian, Frank Kos who is a wanted man in Bosnia and Slovenia.

Bosnia was one big grey area and a bloody mess to boot. Gen. Lewis Mackenzie's accounts of his time in Bosnia is a real eye opener.

It wasn't a rant; it was a piece of provocative writing designed to elicit a response. Which it did.
So now I'll agree with you; basically to point out that our " neutrality " gurus --including the newly elected "cough" socialist "cough " Joe Higgins--rave about triple locks and the UN, whenever it is patently obvious that the UN is a busted flush and a European defence force is the 21st century way to go..
