EU Encourages Use Of Iranian Terror Group To Overthrow Government

Why did I have to dig through the internet to find this little gem?

In a letter to the US president, MEPs, who earlier this year removed the People's Mujahideen of Iran from the EU's terror list, had this to say:
“The regime fears only two prospects ‐ foreign military intervention, which at this point is not under consideration, and the PMOI. Until now, we have prevented ourselves from being able to utilize this valuable leverage and have, as a consequence, made ourselves weaker in the face of the mullahs' regime. To show resilience and strength in our dealings with Tehran and to show our good will towards the Iranian people, we must support the main opposition PMOI rather than treat them as enemies at the behest of the mullahs.”
Euro MPs: Delay in removal of PMOI from the US list could lead to a humanitarian catastrophe - National Council of Resistance of Iran - Foreign Affairs Committee

    So who are the PMOI?

Though largely targeting Iranian government officials, PMOI's killing of American contractors in Tehran in the 1970s, participation alongside Saddam Hussein's forces in suppressing Kurdish and Shiite rebellions in Iraq in 1991 and later attacks on Iranian embassies in 1992 earned it a spot on the terrorist lists of several nations.

In May 2005, Human Rights Watch revealed that the PMOI were running prison camps within Iraq and were committing severe human rights violations. The report described the PMOI as a cult held under the tight control of Maryam Rajavi.

So, our EU representatives have removed this group from the terror list and are urging the US to do the same.

What the hell is going on here?

EU policy is to back terrorist groups intent on igniting civil war in a sovereign country?

Its not 'the EU', its just some random ejiting by MEPs.

However, some EU member states do fund terrorists inside Iran.

The PMOI has as much chance of overthrowing the Iranian government as Al Qaeda have of overthrowing the US goverenment. This is just bloodthirsty armchair warriors in europe wanting to hand our cash to murderors so they can feel like Charlie Wilson.

You ignorant stupid paranoid little man. The PMOI was unbanned due to court cases where its banning was declared to be illegal and because the Council of Europe has asked that it be NOT declared a terrorist organisation. Also 150 politicians in the US including members of the House and Senate signed a letter asking for it to be unbanned. It was banned to help Khatami when he became President. The US and the EU naively thought that the cavemen in Tehran would reciprocate this olive branch and boy were they wrong!

I wonder if this information is more accurate than the information on Iraq's nuclear program provided to the Americans by the Iraqi National Congress (the clear Iraqi counterpart to the PMOI)

MEK & now Jondollah have been supported since 2005ish dude. Who do you think was attacking Iranian troops and blowing up military cargo planes?

As for the EU, I think an insurgency of Irelands own will be required against that wannabe empire.

OK, it seems it was removed from the EU's list of terror groups as a result of a decision by the European Court of First Instance. The decision was unsuccessfully appealed by the French and the EU.

The Brits removed them from their terror list in December '08.

What is your position on the rights of homosexuals in Iran? What is your position on the murders and other persecutions of the Iranian Baha'i community by the Government of Iran. What is your position on the support of the Government of Iran for the murder of six million Jews by the Third Reich. What is your position on the support of the Government of Iran for the extermination of the entire world population of Jews alive today.

    What goes around comes around!
