Having lived here for many years I have to say that the UK is indeed now a police state. A minority of Britons realise it and are shouting as loud as they can but they are drowned out by apathy.

The Tories will get back in shortly and there is no way in hell they are voluntarily going to hand back powers assumed by the state.

I think we'll be seeing civil disorder in Britain in the not too distant future. Probably startin in the cities up north over the hot summer months. The UK in terms of civil liberties is unrecognisable from where it was even ten years ago.

Yes, it's very much a police state, and the docile populace don't even question, but meekly accept this imposition. (The majority of them are a bit thick anyway).

Five years ago I've witnessed them (Old Bill) on a sunny Sunday afternoon patrolling a beach using a motorized vehicle, totally unwarranted.

Jason Bermas and Larry Pratt reckon Britain is the beta test for a police state to be rolled out everywhere (at 4:20)

This website shows how easy it is for the state/interested parties to spy on you via your use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems, DVLA, PNR, UK Border Agency, and Schengen (EU). The ANPR was trialled in the north.

This is obviously making its way into the rest of Ireland. You can find out more about how to oppose it here

I think they're suffering from a bit of hyperbole there.

Well done on posting this. The seeds of this intolerance and ideology are here in Ireland too. Why do you think we have 600 or more quangoes! The UK is imploding and all Jack Straw and those infected with this madness can do is impose a thought police State and persecute Christians who actually believe in the Natural Law.

A police force is urging members of the public to report anyone wearing a suspiciously large amount of 'bling'.

The Gloucestershire Constabulary hopes to weed out criminals who enjoy flaunting their ill-gotten gains.

I'm surprised there have not been mass riots in the UK, It must be at boiling point with the Nu-Labour govt absolutely hated.

And that home sec - jacqui smith, talk about a nazi. ID cards, DNA databases etc... the list goes on.

The UK certainly 'aint what it used to be.
Jacqui would define herself as a socialist, the big brother approach of Nulabour, is very much a product of socialism and their comitment to big business capitalism, but her approach to civil liberties etc, is socialism in practice.
